East Dundee adopts 2025–2028 strategic plan, prioritizing riverfront and infrastructure

The Village of East Dundee adopted a 2025–2028 strategic planning and development initiative on April 21, 2025. Staff presented the plan developed with NIU (Northern Illinois University) consultants, describing the process (environmental scan, stakeholder interviews, leadership workshop and community survey) and the resulting priorities.
The plan groups goals into three strategic priority areas: (1) connectivity, recreation and beautification (including riverfront utilization, a walking/biking plan and wayfinding); (2) organizational and infrastructure growth (including lead service‑line inventory and replacement, GIS tools and staffing needs); and (3) downtown economic development and redevelopment (including redevelopment targets such as the Hagar Pottery site and Route 25 corridor investments).
Staff said short‑term, high‑priority items (one to three years) include developing the Hagar Pottery site, replacing lead service lines and adopting a village communications plan; longer‑term priorities (four to eight years) include funding and bond‑rating improvements and completing major redevelopment projects. Trustees voted to adopt the resolution; Trustees Saviano, Kunzie, Mahoney and Britain voted yes.
The resolution directs staff to incorporate the plan into annual budgeting and to monitor and adjust initiatives as community priorities evolve.
