London Middle School students published; school redesignated as Illinois Horizon School to Watch

Dr. Michael Connolly reported that 18 students from London Middle School were selected for publication in the national anthology “Fright Club: The Hidden Presence,” organized by Young Writers USA, from a 100-word, in-class writing challenge.
Connolly said the assignment required students to plan, draft, revise and submit their work within a single class period, building on on-demand writing skills. He congratulated the students and said the district looks forward to reading more of their work.
Connolly also announced that London Middle School was redesignated as an Illinois Horizon School to Watch for the sixth time, an honor awarded by the Illinois Association for Middle Level Education in partnership with the Illinois State Board of Education. He noted the school was first recognized in 2009 and has maintained the distinction through multiple review cycles, most recently in 2026.
The superintendent framed the redesignation as recognition of the school’s sustained academic standards, organizational structures and programs that support student success, and closed the update by encouraging families to take advantage of spring activities as the year winds down.
