Staff noted the district’s food service program has generally remained in the black in recent years due to careful management and opportunistic use of extra commodities from suppliers. Crucially, staff emphasized these changes do not affect free meal eligibility: children approved for free meals will continue to receive free breakfast and lunch, and the reduced‑price treatment for breakfast remains aligned with district policy.
A motion to approve the recommended food service prices was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote with one voiced opposition. Board members asked questions about comparative pricing in neighboring districts and staff said Monroe remains below many area districts after the increases.
