Waterloo Beautification Committee approves stone-look facade for 824 North Marcus Street

At its meeting, the Waterloo Beautification Committee approved a beautification application from Colleen Miller to replace the entrance at 824 North Marcus Street with a new stone-look facade.

The approval came after committee members reviewed renderings and photographs distributed in a packet. A committee member, Nate, said the design “looks pretty good,” and no committee members raised objections during the discussion. Committee member Kyle Bitner moved to approve the application; Gary seconded the motion and the chair said it passed with all in favor. The chair added the item will be placed on the city council agenda that night for council consideration.

Committee discussion focused on appearance and fit with the downtown streetscape rather than changes to use or function. Members noted packet renderings showed the proposed facade and that the project would follow the same review process used for prior downtown improvements.

The committee recorded no conditions on the approval during the meeting. The chair said that, as standard practice, the city council will receive the application for final approval and that any required permits or staff checks would be completed through normal permitting channels.

The committee then moved on to a separate beautification application for a downtown redevelopment project.
