Tivoli to apply for up to $75,000 to inventory and archive village records

The Village of Tivoli will apply for up to $75,000 from the Local Government Records Improvement Fund to inventory and preserve municipal records and improve public access, Clerk Clair Cleveland told trustees at the March meeting.
Clerk Cleveland described the proposed project as an inventory of all records at Village Hall, an effort to locate records that belong to the village but now sit in other vaults, and a preservation and archiving effort to make historically valuable materials accessible. "This grant ... we're looking to do like an inventory of all the records in Village Hall ... and make the death indexes and the birth indexes ... available through our website," Cleveland said.
Cleveland said the grant would pay consultants to perform the inventory, train village personnel to use and maintain the resulting records system, and support public access for genealogy and local history research. The maximum grant amount to be requested is $75,000. The board voted to authorize submission of the application; the motion was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote.
Next steps include preparing and submitting the application and, if awarded, contracting with consultants to complete the inventory, preservation and website access work. The clerk's office is listed as the implementing department and will report back to the board on application status and any award.
