Staff responded that the city "has six people that work in our fleet department that do the repairs," and that some equipment—two fire trucks, for example—required outside work that likely contributed to the overspend. The mayor and staff said they would follow up with fleet management for a fuller explanation and narrative when the council reviews the next budget cycle.
Separately, council members asked about cybersecurity readiness after a long-running incident in nearby Meriden left systems offline for an extended period. Staff said they are "working on" cybersecurity improvements but declined to discuss details in open session for security reasons; additional funding for cybersecurity was not added to the current budget and will be considered for a future budget cycle.
