During public comment, resident Bryce Marker told the Humboldt County Human Rights Commission he had produced videos alleging discriminatory and abusive conduct by Arcata-area organizations and officials and said he had filed complaints with local and state authorities.
Marker introduced himself and described two videos available on Access Humboldt's YouTube channel: "Does the city of Arcata condone homophobia, racism, sexual abuse and classism?" and "Bryce, diversity and the law." He said the videos include documentation and public-record documents supporting his claims.
He told commissioners he had submitted materials to the district attorney and the California Civil Rights Department and said he had also contacted the Attorney General's office, which he said provided a case number. "I also turned it in to the Attorney General's office," Marker said. "And we have a case with the California Civil Rights department, too. So they gave us a case number." He asked the commission to note the matter and offered to share his contact information and the videos.
Marker named specific persons and organizations in his remarks and said he believed personnel changes in local organizations followed his disclosures. He urged commissioners to review his publicly posted videos and documents; commissioners thanked him for bringing the information forward and offered to follow up off-line.
The commission did not take any formal action on Marker's comments at the meeting. No commission member disputed his claims during the comment period; no representative of Arcata or the named organizations responded at this meeting.
Materials: Marker cited his videos on Access Humboldt's YouTube channel and said he has filed complaints with the district attorney and state civil-rights office. He left contact information for follow-up.
