Human Services Board reviews budgets, vaccine rollout and a new social worker hire

At its Feb. 16 meeting the Human Services Board reviewed Social Services and Public Health budgets, heard a COVID-19 vaccination update (1,828 cases, 3,356 first doses administered), and learned that Madeline Beuning will join the county as a social worker March 8.
Wabasha County’s Human Services Board spent part of its Feb. 16, 2021 session reviewing departmental budgets and staffing. Social Services presented a line-by-line budget review; year-to-date expenses were $356,343, non-levy revenue $144,635 and the cash balance reserve $4,145,451. The budgeted amount for out-of-home placements was reduced to $740,700 for 2021.
Public Health reported YTD expenses of $148,150, revenue of $44,508 and a cash balance reserve of $1,017,103. In the COVID-19 update, Public Health staff reported 1,828 lab-confirmed cases in the county, 19 active cases and 3 deaths as of Feb. 12, and that 3,356 people had received a first vaccine dose while 1,285 had completed the two-dose series. Public Health staff said demand for vaccine exceeds supply and that the county has used all doses received without waste.
The meeting also introduced two new eligibility workers, Lindsey Klindworth and Ruth Marcks. Jodi Johnson reported that the Social Worker position in Home & Community Based Services has been filled; Madeline Beuning will start March 8 and comes from Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center with mental health case management experience.
The board recessed at 8:33 AM until its next scheduled meeting on March 16, 2021.
