Students present 'Paper Bridges' immigrant-art project at Estes Park School District meeting

At the Estes Park School District R-3 board meeting on March 23, students and teacher Miss Barberry presented “Paper Bridges,” a student-driven exhibit that combined art, history and cultural connection.
Miss Barberry introduced the project and recognized student leaders by name, saying the exhibit demonstrated problem solving, collaboration and leadership. She presented certificates honoring “global outcomes” and invited families and board members to photograph the students receiving recognition.
Project manager Evie McGillicuy and photographer Yasmine Lopez were singled out. Lopez told the board, “it was like really fun and like really nice to get to like be the photographer,” and described moving among tour groups to document the work. Miss Barberry explained that students handled public tours, worked across multiple stations and addressed sensitive historical topics respectfully.
Board members and the superintendent praised the students’ work. The program included elementary and middle school tours, two public tours and a foundation tour. Several students—including Willow Manning (wood burning), Draven Thacker (wood carving), Victoria Case (colonial research), AJ Jordan (weaver) and Isa Pontius (tour guide)—were recognized by Miss Barberry for their roles.
The board photograph session and certificate presentation concluded the spotlight. The recognition was framed as an example of the district’s broader “global outcomes” goals, showcasing student voice and hands-on learning.
The board moved on to other agenda items after the student presentations.
