Story County supervisors approve voluntary annexation to Nevada for park and debris site (Res. 26-76)

The Story County Board of Supervisors approved Resolution 26-76 on March 24, supporting a voluntary annexation by the city of Nevada of a parcel identified in county records as Parcel L, which staff said the city proposes to use as a city park and vegetation debris site.

Planning and Development Director Lian Harder briefed the board on the annexation plat and related materials, noting the parcel lies just north of the current city limits, contains areas of mapped flood plain and is currently zoned A1 agricultural and designated as natural resource area on the county land use framework map.

"As you can see... there is substantial amount of flood plain on the property," Harder said, and she explained that once annexed the land would be subject to the regulations of the city of Nevada.

Harder said staff attended a consultation meeting with the city on March 18 and provided the board with a location plat and the recorded parcel description. The presentation also included the state code language that sets time frames for Board action on annexation proposals.

After a motion and second to approve the resolution, recorded aye votes by supervisors Heddens, Fazel and Merken carried the motion and the resolution was adopted.

The board did not add conditions to the resolution in the meeting record; Harder noted the county zoning and land use designations and advised that city regulations would apply after annexation. No separate public hearing occurred during this session; the board’s action was the resolution of support as presented.

The county will rely on the city of Nevada for post‑annexation regulation and any future land use approvals for the parcel.
