Samantha Nazario, who identified herself as a mother, a Brevard resident and the 2022 National Advocate of the Year, represented the Bleeding Disorder Foundation of Florida and the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation in remarks to the board. Nazario said specialized care was scarce in the region: her son’s treatment center is “over 2 and 1/2 hours away,” and she described the high cost of therapy: "We handle medicine costing $15,000 per dose... The average cost for a patient like Tyler is anywhere from $300,000 to $1 million per year." She also highlighted local fundraising (Team Tyler) and the foundation’s outreach programs.
Board members thanked Nazario, took photos and recognized the foundation’s work in patient education and advocacy. The proclamation text in the agenda packet named the Bleeding Disorder Foundation of Florida and the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation and urged citizens to increase awareness and support health‑care professionals and patient services.
The proclamation was adopted by voice vote as part of the meeting’s ceremonial items.
