Curriculum committee recommends behavior supports, Schoolyard Rap performance and several service agreements

Michelle McGawan, chair of the curriculum committee, reported items the committee asked the board to approve at the next business meeting. She said the committee discussed an oratorical competition tentatively scheduled for May 27, 2026, and a special Schoolyard Rap performance intended to support culturally based instruction and student pride. "It is just so amazing," McGawan said of the Schoolyard Rap program and said the contract language was being finalized and would be shared with trustees.
McGawan outlined personnel- and student-related agenda items: two confidential settlement agreements (details listed in the board packet), program placement agreements for three students to attend Keystone Freedom Academy and a service agreement with Nimon Associates to provide supplemental behavioral-health management services where the district's current vendor Gamut lacks capacity. She also described an extension of a Criticare substitute and support-services agreement (covering registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, personal care assistants and other support staff) that will run through June 26, 2027.
She said these items have fiscal impact because they were not included in the original budget and recommended the board approve the submitted items; the committee reported no policy items requiring board action at this time.
Next steps: finalized contracts will be added to the board folder for review before the business meeting; the board will consider the recommended approvals at the next business meeting.
