The Limestone County Commission on March 16 scheduled an executive session to discuss a proposed offer to purchase property on Elm Street, with staff advising that Alabama law allows closed‑door discussion of price before a public vote.
County staff member Drew explained that the commission would go into executive session to discuss the purchase price, then return to the open meeting to vote on whether to make an offer. He said the county cannot pay more than appraised value and that an appraisal will be required under state law.
Drew also identified key contingencies the commission expects to include in any offer: an acceptable environmental review and a structural inspection of the property. The commission discussed obtaining an appraisal and making any offer contingent on those results.
No formal motion to purchase was recorded at the work session. The chair said the Elm Street item will be moved to the regular meeting agenda after executive session for formal consideration and any vote.
The commission scheduled a brief recess to convene the executive session and return to the regular meeting for further action.
