The Sumpter School District Board of Trustees announced March 9 that it has selected Dr. Gerald Gary as superintendent pending successful negotiations.
"We the board of trustees have come to a selection," Chair Shawn Reagan said, announcing the board's choice and asking for a motion to formalize the appointment. A motion and second were called and the board voted to approve the selection.
The appointment followed an executive session in which trustees discussed individual student matters, personnel items, contractual matters and the superintendent finalist. After returning to open session the board also approved motions related to student releases for the 2026–27 school year and unanimously approved the monthly personnel report.
Board members did not provide a public tally for the superintendent vote; the motion was recorded in the minutes as passing. The board described the action as pending successful negotiations and did not release contract details at the meeting.
The selection concludes the board's publicly stated search process; administration said negotiators will now finalize terms and return to the board for any required formal action.
