At its Jan. 5 meeting the DeSoto County Board of Supervisors handled a broad set of routine and administrative actions: adopting December minutes, electing officers, approving claims and budget amendments, confirming yearly appointments, authorizing purchases on state contract, and entering several agreements.
The Board adopted the minutes from December 2025 under MS Code §19‑3‑27. Supervisors voted unanimously to rotate leadership and elected Supervisor Jessie Medlin president for 2026 and Supervisor Ray Denison vice‑president. The Board approved the claims docket under MS Code §19‑13‑31 and passed budget amendments across several funds including capital projects, state aid engineering, the Agri‑Education Center and road maintenance.
Procurement approvals included purchase authorizations for: a SID vehicle from Chuck Hutton Toyota ($40,000.01), a 2026 Dodge Ram 1500 on state contract ($39,244.00), ammunition from Pinnacle Precision ($151,450.00), fleet truck purchases from Kirk Automotive (state contract) and a sole‑source Slack platform purchase via Carahsoft ($10,822.20). The Board approved a Cellebrite subscription renewal for the Sheriff's Office and awarded the Crisis Center network fiber installation contract to Progressive Technologies ($118,405.00).
Road and grant items approved included adding "Lucy Lane" to the county road register and authorizing NRCS reimbursement documents for Love Road and Johnson Creek projects (total project amounts and county cost shares were presented in the record). The Board authorized the Board Attorney to draft a Debris Removal RFP and to work with Southaven and Hernando on an interlocal agreement for Getwell Road widening.
Other actions: the Board authorized cremation of an unclaimed body (George Andrew Miller) if no claimant appears within five days; approved a driveway connection for Rite‑Hite to Interstate Blvd; directed final payments for construction vendors; and passed resolutions recognizing Captain J. Bingham for a creek rescue and authorizing deputies to use speed radar detection equipment. Most motions passed unanimously by roll call.
