Parks staff finalize St. Patrick’s Day parade plans and prepare for job fair and seasonal hires

Recreation and Special Events Coordinator Ed Heard updated the board on St. Patrick’s Day activities and staffing plans. Heard said parade road closures have been standardized and that a corrected map key will be issued; a press release will be distributed by the end of the week. He also said the St. Patrick’s Day Color Run (5K and 1-mile) at Stodden Park will begin after school at 4:00 PM and that organizers expect about 250 runners.
Heard said a job fair to assist Ridge Waters staff recruitment will be held March 31 at Butte High; Parks staff aim to post lifeguard and concession positions after approvals from Finance & Budget and the Chief Executive. He noted a need for roughly 30–35 lifeguards per year and ongoing issues with some applicants not passing deep-water training. Ridge Waters plans also include front-desk improvements and lawn renovations; staff are investigating a new pool vacuum and chlorine pump.
