Parks will begin charging $20 per student for senior banners after cost review

Parks Director Shawn Fredrickson presented a cost analysis showing the Parks division spent $9,285 last season to hang more than 400 vinyl banners honoring graduating seniors from Butte High and Butte Central. Fredrickson said the total cost per banner is $65, while Parks will start assessing a fee of $20 per student (or $40 per two-student banner) beginning this graduation season.
Fredrickson said the new fee does not cover half of the full cost, and that Butte-Silver Bow will still subsidize more than half. He said the school district does not contribute and that schools will have options for families facing hardships. Member Ristene Hall expressed concern about charging for services that taxpayers already fund.
