Commissioners approve $500,000 task order to advance PFAS treatment planning at county water plant

The Board of Commissioners voted to approve a $500,000 task order with CDM Smith to advance planning for treatment of per‑ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS/POs) at the county water plant.
A utility staff presenter summarized the work as a continuation of a pilot study and a peer review to evaluate treatment technologies, site layout, cost estimates and implementation schedules. "This task order would address the site criteria, the layout requirements. It would also look at our estimated costs and implementation schedules," the presenter said, adding the task order would evaluate existing powder‑activated carbon infrastructure and prepare the project for bidding. Staff said the action is a step toward meeting an EPA implementation guideline with a target of 2031.
A motion to approve Task Order 4 passed by voice vote.
Next steps: execute the task order, complete the technical evaluation and prepare a bid package and schedule toward compliance and facility upgrades.
