Engineer Ed said the city has also pursued grant opportunities to cover planning and design costs and noted the city qualifies for IBANK planning-and-design grants of up to $2 million; additional construction funding streams may follow. On the Shore Road project (near Ohio Avenue), Ed said crews will "raise Shore Road anywhere from a foot to two feet in various areas" and that residents should expect pipe and drainage work over the winter with road build-up and elevation work in the spring.
City staff said the county engineer has one outstanding comment on the Shore Road plans; once addressed, the county is expected to include the work in a county contract to be awarded after bidding (staff mentioned possible award dates in early or mid-December). The engineer described the work as intended to move Shore Road from one of the city's lowest-lying, flood-prone roads to a more passable corridor during storm events.
