County engineers approve residential entrance permit; pier and bridge work ramps up

Jaden Shackle of the Jackson County Engineer’s Office updated the board on road and bridge work and presented a routine entrance‑permit request on March 24.
Shackle said the entrance permit request concerns an existing, unpermitted driveway on 69th Street in South Fork Allenship (Section 10). He reported the driveway does not require a culvert, sight distances are sufficient from the northeast and from the southwest (about 180 feet of sight distance measured from the intersection with Caves Road), and recommended approval. The board moved to approve the residential entrance permit for Joel Hinrich (transcript shows both “Joel Hinrich” and later “Joe Heinrich” in the motion record; spelling was inconsistent in the meeting record) and the permit was approved by voice vote.
On active projects, Shackle reported Channel North pile driving for the north pier is complete and the concrete footing was poured; crews will set forms and rebar cages for the pier column next. He said the Z15 bridge work is scheduled to start around mid‑April and that the county plans to borrow variable message signs from neighboring counties to notify motorists in advance. Shackle also said concrete overlay work will begin in June and reclaiming on gravel routes may begin in May, weather permitting.
Shackle noted that recent weather (a late blizzard) delayed some work but frost had come out of gravel roads and he had not received complaints about current road conditions. The board thanked the engineer for the update; a preconstruction meeting on the Z15 bridge was expected the following week.
