Schley County adopts FY 2026 millage rate of 13.094; approves amended 2025-26 budget

Douglas Jamieson presented the proposed FY 2026 millage rate and answered commissioners' questions about line items. Commissioner Harrison asked whether the budgeted amount for a school resource officer (SRO) was covered; Jamieson said the SRO cost "should be a wash once a SRO is hired." Commissioner Jones asked how property taxes had fallen since the last assessor's presentation; staff explained that the local school system had reduced its millage rate, which helped lower property taxes overall. Commissioners also discussed the importance of the county's 1% FLOST sales tax to local revenue.
After discussion, Chairman Clark called for a motion. Commissioner Jones moved to adopt the proposed FY 2026 millage rate of 13.094; the motion carried with all present voting in favor. The board then considered the amended 2025-2026 fiscal year budget. Commissioner Jones moved to adopt the amended budget as presented; Commissioner Barrineau seconded the motion and the board approved it unanimously.
The meeting concluded with a motion by Commissioner Jones to adjourn, which the board approved. The meeting minutes record that the minutes were published on Nov. 7, 2025 and adopted on Nov. 13, 2025.
