Walton County board approves two-year academic calendars, Zone 5 contract and recognizes paraprofessional Susie Sheets

The Walton County Board of Education approved two academic calendars and routine consent items and recognized a district employee during its regular meeting.
Board members voted unanimously to approve the consent agenda, which included the minutes from Dec. 8, 2025, the academic calendars for the 2026–27 and 2027–28 school years (released as two calendars at the public’s request to aid planning), and the Zone 5 contract. The superintendent recommended two items under the CEO consent agenda — the December 2025 finance report and January 2026 personnel actions — which the board also accepted by a unanimous voice vote.
During the superintendent’s remarks the board presented the Weil Walton Award, sponsored by Carmichael’s, to paraprofessional Susie Sheets of Monroe Elementary School. Patrice, who introduced the nomination, said, “Susie Sheets is my nominee because of her dedication to student success,” and described Sheets’ schedule: arriving at 6:30 a.m. to run before-care for more than 30 students and working with the LEAP after-school program that runs into the evening.
The board noted the FY2027 budget calendar under additional information and asked the public to review it and provide feedback. The meeting record shows there were no visitor comments before the board adjourned.
The board’s approvals on the consent and CEO consent agendas were procedural and did not change district policy during the meeting; follow-up tasks identified included posting the approved calendars and finalizing contract documentation for the Zone 5 agreement.
