The Walton County Board of Education voted to accept an anonymous donation of roughly 50 acres in Monroe and approved one‑time staff retention bonuses during its regular meeting.
Superintendent Underwood told the board the donation — from a community member who asked to remain anonymous — provides land the district can use for future development and conserves funds the district would otherwise need to spend on property acquisition. “That is a wonderful donation that will help children in the future in Walton County,” Underwood said.
Underwood also described a staff retention bonus approved as part of the consent agenda: $1,000 for each full‑time employee and $500 for each half‑time employee. “Staff are the most important thing in the district, bar none,” Underwood said, explaining the bonus is the board’s recognition of staff work during the first semester.
The package that contained both items was approved as part of the board consent agenda. Chairman Gibson called for a motion, which Mr. Butler made and Miss Brooks seconded; the chair recorded the vote as 7–0 in favor.
Separately, the board approved the CEO consent agenda — a motion accepting the finance report for October 2025 and the personnel report for November 2025 — on a motion by Mr. Breedlove, seconded by Miss Brown; the chair recorded that vote as 6–0.
No additional details about the donor were provided at the meeting. The superintendent said the donated acreage is intended for future district development; the board did not adopt additional conditions or timelines for development at this meeting.
The meeting also included routine policy readings and several recognitions. The board adjourned after completing its agenda.
