Tibbitz fourth-grader demonstrates stop-motion and green-screen projects at school-board meeting

Rhonda Gillette described tools and activities she brings back from conferences and singled out green-screen and stop-motion animation as focus areas for the presentation. Gillette said the district’s elementary schools have green-screen spaces used for storytelling, video production and classroom projects.
Trevor Sukala explained the stop-motion workflow and the constraints of frame rate: “12 photos equals a 1 second video,” he told the board, adding that he slows the clip and adds music so the final piece loops smoothly. Gillette said students use a kit and an app called Stickbot Studio and also practice on larger displays with classmates.
Board members praised the program and noted Tibbitz’s recent student engagement events, including the Bell of the Books program, which Frost said involved 88 students and about 20 adult coaches. The presentation closed with board members congratulating the students and moving on to the evening’s consent items.
