Council member proposes veterans recognition feature at new community park; staff to explore design

During the council petitions portion of the April 28 meeting, Council member Bruin proposed creating a veterans recognition element—described as a wall of honor, wall of thanks, cornerstone, or plaza bench—near the new community park's planned flag plaza.

Bruin said the park design already included a three‑flag plaza and suggested that one of the flag positions or the adjacent plaza could include a permanent acknowledgment of military service "past, present, and future." "It could be just a design thing, maybe include a bench or two, some kind of a stone with acknowledgement," he said.

Town Manager Nick Wharton told the council the park is still at a stage where such an addition could be incorporated: "If it's something that the entire council is interested in, this is something that we're still in a good stage where it could be added to the community park," he said, adding that a sandblasted stone feature would be a relatively easy addition. The council indicated no objection to staff developing a concept design and bringing cost/placement options back to a future meeting.

No formal motion or funding decision was made at the meeting; the item was treated as a council petition and staff follow‑up was requested.
