Walton County schools honor volunteers, staff with Impact and Weill Walton awards

A representative from Loganville Elementary praised long-term volunteers who “didn't just drop off food and leave,” saying, “They stay. They serve.” The speaker noted volunteers helped design and build a pole barn, donated sod and supported classroom activities, and presented them with an Impact Award.
Beth Morgan of Sharon Elementary described a weekend "backpack blessings" program led by Charlotte and Davis Woods and Pastor Acres that provides students facing food insecurity with bags of snacks and simple meals. Two students quoted in the program, Ayla Miller and Anthony Bassano, said the backpacks eased family food costs; Morgan said the program offers stability and reassurance to participating families.
A Loganville Middle School presenter recognized Patty Pennington for volunteering in the front office, saying she devotes six hours a day, three days a week to helping staff and students and frequently leaves handwritten notes for teachers.
Matt McDonald, introduced as representing Loganville High School, presented Jenny Berardinelli with an Impact Award and highlighted her PTSO leadership across district schools and her role organizing a pageant that raises approximately $25,000 each year to fund scholarships for graduating seniors.
District student-services staff presented the February Weill Walton awards to school-support employees including Billy Joe Deal of Loganville Elementary for special-education support and recognized Miss Steele for consistent classroom and team support. A district presenter described three areas of impact for Deal: ensuring comprehensive IEP service delivery, bridging school–home communication, and maintaining compliance and paperwork that protect students and teachers.
The recognitions took place during the board’s regular meeting before business items and were followed by a brief recess; the board then resumed policy readings and routine agenda actions. The meeting recorded no public comments at the visitor-comment period and adjourned after completing scheduled business.
The awards highlight ongoing community partnerships and staff efforts that school leaders said directly support student learning and well-being.
