Schley County commissioners approve annex HVAC contractor, authorize pursuit of energy funds and OK sheriff vehicle purchase

Schley County commissioners approved a bid from Moore Heating & Air to replace HVAC equipment at the county annex and authorized county staff to pursue additional grant funding for more energy-efficient units. County Manager Douglas Jamieson presented three eligible bids received March 31: Moore Heating & Air (Butler) for $102,350; MAXAIR Mechanical (Newnan) for $105,636; and Reece Heating & Air Conditioning (Warner Robins) for $130,753.94. Jamieson said one other bid was disqualified for failing to meet efficiency requirements.
Commissioner Harrison moved to accept the Moore Heating & Air bid; Commissioner Jones seconded and "all were in favor," according to the meeting minutes. Jamieson noted the original grant authorization capped at $150,000 and asked for permission to pursue additional funds to allow more energy-efficient units countywide; the board approved that request by motion.
Separately, the board approved replacing the sheriff’s Tahoe because of high mileage and frequent repairs. The new vehicle was estimated at about $52,000 plus a cage, lights and decals, with funding identified from 2025 SPLOST funds. Commissioner Harrison moved to approve the purchase and Vice Chairman Belcher seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Other routine procedural items approved without opposition included adoption of the meeting agenda and approval of the March 10 minutes. The board also recognized Commissioner Jones for attaining certified county commissioner status; Jones declined the associated pay increase.
What’s next: The county manager will pursue additional energy-efficiency funding options for HVAC upgrades at county facilities and will proceed with the sheriff vehicle procurement under the approved funding source.
