Vigo County commissioners approve claims docket, temporary road closure and copier lease; auditor announces off‑site certificate sale

The Vigo County Board of Commissioners on March 20 approved routine minutes and payments, authorized a temporary closure of Hunt Road for a school fundraiser, and renewed a two‑copier lease, while the county auditor announced the annual tax certificate sale will be held off‑site at the Vigo County Convention Center.
The board approved the March 17, 2026 minutes after the county auditor presented them and called for a vote. The auditor then presented a claims docket dated March 13–20, 2026 totaling $752,458.63; commissioners moved, seconded and approved the payments by voice vote.
The chair presented a request — submitted by email from Kyle Kirchner — to close Hunt Road between Highway 40 and Highway 42 on April 17 from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for a Lost Creek school "color run" fundraiser. The chair said the Sheriff's Department will assist with closures at the intersections of 42 & Hunt and 40 & Hunt. "We'll close it for a couple hours and the kids get out there and the parents and what have you and have a good time and raise a little money," the chair said. Commissioners approved the temporary closure by voice vote.
The board also approved a lease renewal with Gordon Flesch Company for two copiers used by Community Corrections after staff noted the arrangement is a routine renewal.
Alex, the county auditor, reminded residents that the certificate sale will be held at the Vigo County Convention Center, 800 Wabash Avenue, with registration at 8:30 a.m. and the sale starting at 10:00 a.m. He said parking will be in the parking garage at about $1 per hour and that lists and additional information are available in the auditor's office. "We're officially under 300 properties. We hit 297 this morning, so good work," Alex said, urging anyone who wants to redeem property to visit the auditor's office.
Commissioner Clinkenbeard had no items to add during commissioner comments. Another commissioner noted a local sign error on a new Vigo County sign near the old jail that was corrected early in the morning and thanked a county employee, Tyler, for fixing it.
After the approvals and brief announcements the chair recessed the meeting. The auditor reiterated that certificate sale attendees should plan for the off‑site location and available parking.
