Oregon City hears Metro regional vision preview and annual reports from Historic Review and Natural Resources committees

Gabrielle Blau, a Gladstone city councilor serving on Metro’s Future Vision effort, described a public survey open through May 15 and requested that the city encourage participation and share youth‑summit details when available. Metro’s exercise will inform regional planning to 2040 and beyond.
Tim Powell and Julia Samrock Fulkerson updated the commission on Historic Review Board work. The HRB highlighted a lengthy process to craft compatible‑change standards for the McLofflin Conservation District, review of several larger preservation projects (including work at the Oregon City Hospital and the Sarah Hughes House), and educational goals for board members and the public. The HRB also awarded the 2025 Ruth McBride Powers Award to the Frank and Annie Bush House.
Sam Wolf, chair of the Natural Resources Committee, summarized NRC priorities: a tree‑canopy analysis for city‑owned lands, outreach on emerald ash borer and invasive plants, volunteer tree inventories, coordination with Parks and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, and work on Urban Growth Boundary habitat partnerships. The city earned a Tree City USA recognition for 2025, and NRC plans include public education materials and collaboration on habitat projects.
