Coyote Hills reports ELPAC gains and falling chronic absenteeism in school spotlight

Palamino identified key demographics (417 students; 32% students with disabilities; 33% English learners; 62% Hispanic/Latinx) and reported performance gains on ELPAC: "The percentage of students increasing proficiency on the ELPAC increased from 41% to 50% in the 2024-2025 school year," she said, attributing growth to SEAL designated ELD lessons and structured oral-language practice.
The school also saw a drop in chronic absenteeism from 26.82% in 2023-24 to 21.88% in 2024-25 (a 4.94 percentage-point improvement), Palamino said. Preliminary CASP results showed modest growth in English language arts and math; subgroup gains were noted for Asian and economically disadvantaged students. I-Ready baseline data show a substantial share of students below grade level in reading and math, and Palamino laid out daily intervention strategies, grade-level collaborative planning, and gallery walks as instructional approaches.
Board members praised the presentation and asked for more detail about day-to-day supports for off-grade-level learners; Palamino described grade-level meetings, staff planning time and small intervention groups as part of the campus plan.
