Lynwood Unified celebrates PBIS milestones; board approves facilities items and appoints director

The Lynwood Unified School District board on Oct. 23 recognized a wide set of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) achievements across the district while moving forward on routine facilities and personnel items.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Marbel Martinez said the district is in its 12th year of PBIS implementation and reported that 12 schools achieved platinum recognition and several others earned gold designations from the California PBIS Coalition. "We are in year 12 of PBIS implementation," Dr. Martinez said, and she credited the work with gains in graduation rates, attendance and reduced suspensions.
During the facilities portion of the agenda the board approved multiple Measure K and Measure N project motions, authorized a service agreement with Petra Structural Engineers for replacement design services, and carried consent‑agenda items by unanimous vote. Each motion recorded in the public minutes passed 5‑0.
Following closed‑session discussion the board approved the appointment of Joseé Hadi as director of student services, also by a 5‑0 vote; the minutes note applause from the gallery. The board’s report out said staff briefed trustees on multiple closed‑session items and that unanimous direction was given on certain items where no final action was taken.
The board adjourned the meeting at 7:56 p.m.; its next regular session is scheduled for Nov. 13, 2025.
