Bloomington High students showcase academics and activities; new Smith Tech assistant principal introduced

Students from Bloomington High School presented a first-quarter showcase at the Oct. 16 Colton Joint Unified board meeting, highlighting academics, athletics, student activities and community events.
Van Idahan opened the presentation with an overview of academic and orientation efforts for freshmen, and Miriam Morales described counseling, university visits and AVID recognition. Zoe Sutherland reported on fall athletics—cross country, football and girls volleyball—naming athletes of the month. Orasio Vasulto and ASB President Anthony Cordio reviewed activities including club rush, welcome-week events, homecoming, Unity Day and an upcoming Spookfest scheduled for Oct. 23 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Board members praised the students’ presentation and singled out attendance as a district priority; the board noted Bloomington’s reported attendance goal of 95% and district reports later cited 2,917 CJSD students (TK–8) with perfect attendance in September.
Later in the meeting Assistant Superintendent Dr. Brandon Day introduced Christine Steer Hessen as the new assistant principal at Smith Tech Elementary. Christine thanked the board, Dr. Miranda and the school community and said she looks forward to serving students and staff at Smith Tech.
No formal board action resulted from the school showcase or the personnel introduction; both were informational presentations on the agenda.
