Board approves superintendent contract amendment with pay and retirement provisions

At the Oct. 16 meeting the board approved the fifth amendment to the superintendent’s employment agreement. Board President Dan Flores read a summary of the amendment before the board voted.
Key terms read into the record include a contract term running July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2028; an annual base salary of $325,144 with a 2.5% annual increase; an annual work year of 224 days; a district-provided vehicle for the superintendent’s use; and health and life insurance benefits consistent with other certificated management employees. Sick leave accrual was read as 14 days per year.
The amendment also addresses retirement and supplemental contributions: the board agreed to make matching contributions annually up to 5% of the superintendent’s salary to a 403(b) tax-sheltered account; the amendment states that matching contributions will not be counted as creditable compensation for retirement purposes. Under specified conditions (age 55 or older, resignation in good standing after at least five years’ service and commencement of retirement benefits), the district will make a supplemental employer contribution equal to 95% of the superintendent’s final base salary paid over five years following retirement.
Board Member Israel Fuentes moved the item and Board Member Ibara seconded; the amendment passed on a roll-call vote (all members present voted yes, as recorded by Miss Medina). No board member offered a substantive amendment to the terms at the meeting.
