The Madison Board of Adjustment unanimously approved a conditional-use permit on March 10 to allow an indoor playground at 105 South Egan Avenue.
Engineering staff introduced the application, explaining that the proposed use — described in the municipal code as auditorium/meeting/recreational facilities — is allowable as a conditional use in the central business zone. Staff reported no written opposition in the packet and no outstanding concerns after their review.
Applicant Heather Lee told commissioners the business would operate primarily on the main level of the former Anytime Fitness space and would offer a soft-play area for young children, climbing structures for ages 5–12, arcade games and a maker space with 3D printers and laser etchers. "Any children under 12 would require a parent to be present," Lee said, adding that staffing needs would be modest (two staff on duty typically) and that she will obtain fire-department occupancy approval and building permits before opening.
Commissioners asked questions about parking and safety; Lee said staff would use alley parking and that occupancy limits will be set with the fire department. After a roll-call vote, commissioners unanimously approved the conditional use. The applicant was congratulated and told to complete standard permitting and occupancy steps before opening.
