Centennial SD outlines FCS classroom renovation, aims for July finish; staff weighing induction stoves

A staff member told the operations committee that final drawings for the Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) room renovation were expected for review and that staff would issue an RFP so the board could consider approval before June. "Once we get...approval happens the first thing that I will make happen is the removal of any tile," the staff member said, and estimated contractor work at roughly six weeks so a mid-June start could finish by the end of July, with a small buffer.
On appliances, staff said all replacement stoves will be electric and that the procurement will include a cost comparison between straight electric and induction units. "The advantage of induction is it's safe. a student can't put their hand on a hot area. If it's double the cost, do we want to spend that? We'll look at that when it comes, but I'll have all those numbers for you," the staff member said. They added the district plans to buy appliances in-house rather than rely on big-box delivery to avoid added markups.
Staff said there were no other capital updates at this meeting and that they will bring the RFP and final bids back to the board for approval and scheduling.
