Finance committee backs grant application for Cheyenne Police victim-services program

The Finance Committee on March 17 recommended that the City Council approve a resolution authorizing the City of Cheyenne to submit a funding application to the Wyoming Division of Victim Services for fiscal years 2027 and 2028.
Julie Anthony, victim assistance coordinator for the Cheyenne Police Department, described the department's victim-assistance program and the services advocates provide, including case management, connections to housing and mental-health resources, accompaniment to medical appointments, and crisis response. Anthony said that during the previous two-year grant cycle the program provided services to 1,486 victims through 1,918 instances of service and delivered 196 instances of crisis response.
Supporters on the committee thanked Anthony and her team for the work and moved to recommend adoption (moved by Councilman Moody, seconded by Councilman Lion). The committee voted to send the resolution to the governing body with a recommendation to adopt.
The resolution will be considered at the governing-body meeting; the committee's action is a recommendation to authorize application submission and does not itself obligate new city funding.
