Commissioners approve Danville CDBG notice, grant amendment, mowing contract and brownfield support letters

County staff presented several routine consent and contract items during the April 2 meeting. The board approved advertisement of a Notice of Finding No Significant Impact and a Notice of Intent to Request Release of Funds for the Danville critical-infrastructure water-improvement project, estimated at $470,000 and to be funded with CDBG dollars.
Commissioners approved an amendment to the Knox County Juvenile Court grant (fiscal accountability report changes) and awarded the county engineer’s 2026 roadside mowing program to Quick Mow for $131,658.30 after reviewing bid performance concerns for a lower bidder. The engineer’s estimate for the work had been approximately $160,000.
The board also approved three support letters for Mount Vernon brownfield assessment grant applications (311 S. McKenic Street; 321 S. Main / 401 S. Main; and 6 E. Chestnut Street) to pay for environmental assessments and possible demo work; the letters do not themselves obligate cleanup funds. Finally, the board approved a temporary easement for Columbia Gas Transmission at a parcel near the county well field to allow access for a new transmission line. Motions were carried by voice vote with the routine roll call of “All those in favor say ‘I.’”
