A 4K vetting team recommended Frog Street as the Wausau School District’s core 4K curriculum and the Education Operations Committee voted June 24 to recommend the full board adopt the resource for full implementation in fall 2024.
Cara, the district’s 4K principal and early‑childhood coordinator, said the team used a locally developed 18‑component rubric aligned with state guidance and Act 20 to evaluate five candidate resources, narrowed the field to two, invited vendors to demonstrate and settled unanimously on Frog Street. The presenters noted the curriculum offers research‑based literacy supports, a Spanish‑language curriculum package, differentiation for multilingual and special‑education learners, and parent‑engagement components.
The team cited a Johns Hopkins study and feedback from a recent Wisconsin district that reported vocabulary gains after adopting Frog Street. Implementation will include a full‑day onsite professional development session in August, on‑demand training via the vendor portal, and possible district consideration of Frog Street assessment packages in later years. Presenters said Frog Street’s annual portal costs are expected to be lower than the previous curriculum because Frog Street relies less on consumable materials.
Following questions about bilingual supports, assessment and cost, the committee moved to recommend adoption to the full board. Administrators will provide detailed cost comparisons at a future meeting.
