Committee approves 95% designs for Horus Man and Monas projects, clears plans to go to bid

The Education Operations Committee voted June 24 to approve 95%-complete designs and the accompanying budgets for the referendum projects referenced in the presentation as Horus Man and Monas and to issue the plans for competitive bidding.

Administrators and Nexus Solutions staff said the design sets include secure front entry upgrades, renovated libraries, new playgrounds and ADA access to fields. Sharon Gold, senior program manager with Nexus Solutions, reviewed changes that have been made since the referendum concepts were adopted, including revised flooring to meet a new district durability standard and a reconfigured community room that will function as a children’s house for the Monas program.

The design team described mechanical and electrical upgrades required to support new spaces, including chilled-water and variable-air-volume boxes, plumbing extensions for added toilet rooms and replacement of the damaged pool motor control center. Presenters warned of lead times for some equipment—particularly generators and specialized components—that could affect schedule.

On budget, administration said combined project reestimates earlier this year raised the figure but recent bid results and packaged pricing improved the position. Staff reported the combined scope is showing roughly $943,000 under the most recent budget projection. Following discussion, the committee moved and approved issuing the 95% design documents for bidding.

The committee’s action was procedural: it cleared the designs to be advertised for contractor proposals. The full board will see the final bid packages and contract-award recommendations when procurement concludes.
