Student board representative spotlights Torrance high school achievements and wellbeing efforts

At the start of the meeting, the student board representative, Board member Kim, gave a month-in-review focused on Torrance Unified high school accomplishments and student engagement programs.
Kim framed the report around the district’s portrait-of-a-graduate pillars — communication and collaboration; growth mindset and lifelong learning; civic engagement and global citizenship; healthy habits and life skills; and leadership and character — and listed concrete examples: speech and debate competitors at the California State Speech and Debate Championship, Torrance High’s spring concert, North High’s production of Legally Blonde, multiple CIF playoff appearances by volleyball, tennis and softball teams, Pioneer League championships for swim and diving, and community cultural showcases organized by clubs.
Kim also described wellness and life skills efforts, including stress-relief activities at Torrance High’s wellness center and student-led fundraising events. The student representative noted district internship programs in communications and an entrepreneurship internship supported by a donation from Surf Management and coordinated with the Torrance Education Foundation and Project Echo; the entrepreneurship program will run four weeks in summer and culminate in a pitch event at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
"The future is looking really bright," Kim said, closing the report and offering best wishes to students taking AP exams.
