Board approves Mosquito MPD for 91 homes; commissioners push for FDOT coordination on shared‑use paths along U.S. 41

The Pasco County Board of County Commissioners on March 10 approved P58, a master-plan unit development (MPD) application filed under the name Pasco County Mosquito Control District (MPD) to allow 91 single-family detached residences and associated infrastructure on about 41.85 acres in northwest Pasco County.
William Vermillion of Planning and Development told commissioners the original FDOT PD&E from 1989 contemplated a rural cross section for U.S. 41 but that the county has been working with FDOT to pursue an urban typical section that would include shared-use paths on both sides of the highway. Vermillion said, as part of the project the county obtained approximately 1.64 acres of right‑of‑way dedication toward the desired cross section and that planning materials show that dedication on the plan.
Commissioners asked questions about sidewalks and trails along U.S. 41, funding phases and whether right-of-way reservations were adequate. Vermillion answered that right-of-way dedication for the cross section is shown on the plan and that FDOT phased funding had affected prior widening plans; he noted county staff continue to coordinate design and right-of-way needs with FDOT.
No members of the public appeared to speak about the application. After staff responses and brief commissioner remarks, the board moved to approve the MPD with the conditions recommended by staff. The motion passed on a voice vote.
Next steps: planning staff will proceed with the conditions of approval, implement the planned right-of-way dedication and continue coordination with FDOT for design and multi-modal accommodations on U.S. 41 as the corridor moves toward future improvements.
