Balcones Heights plans first city fiesta, solicits vendors and business support for Opportunity Zone outreach

The update said $8,000 in sponsorships had been secured so far and that staff were actively soliciting vendors and sponsorships; staff also reported outreach via Facebook/Instagram, emails to tenants, and in-person tenant visits along Hillrest and Fredericksburg corridors.
Separately, staff described a March 18 local-business introduction meeting intended to organize existing businesses, show community support for an Opportunity Zone designation (which would apply citywide because the census tract aligns with the city), and potentially seed a sustainable business entity such as a chamber of commerce. Staff asked board members to assist with outreach and distribution of flyers and electronic materials.
The update referenced outreach to prospective sponsors and noted a reported contact from "Juan Valdez from Methodist" expressing potential sponsorship interest; staff said Methodist had not yet confirmed any sponsorship amount.
Staff requested no formal action at the meeting but asked board members to help disseminate information about the event and the March 18 business meeting.
