Multiple community members used the board's public-comment period to announce upcoming local events and to urge school-safety fixes.
Belma Wilson listed city and county resource events, including the Contra Costa County block party at the Antioch water park on Aug. 28 and a Delta Veterans Standdown Sept. 12–15, and encouraged parents to use advisory committees and district supports. "Make sure students are registering," she said about college and career events planned with neighboring districts.
Dimlless Johnson III, associate director of external affairs for Rocket Ship Public Schools, invited trustees to Rocket Ship Delta Prep events on Sept. 19 and Oct. 17 and said RSVPs had been sent.
Parent Tanya Maragon Gordon described dangerous pickup and drop-off conditions at Orchard Park — "no buses, no crossing guards, no crosswalks, no sidewalks" — and reported an intersection collision during pickup. She asked the district and city to consider slanted street parking, crossing guards, a crosswalk at Live Oak and Oakley, and staff-assisted pickup procedures similar to other sites. Trustees invited her to share details with staff for follow-up.
Board members said staff would be asked to reach out to parents and that petitions or additional information could be shared with the board office for follow-up.
