Superintendent reports districtwide school visits and a new safety committee as schools reopen

Superintendent Dr. Darnice Williams told the Antioch Unified School District board that district leaders completed visits to every school and department ahead of the start of the 2025–26 school year and will continue community engagement during the year.
"We have touched each and every school within our district, all 24," Dr. Williams said, noting principals, teachers and classified staff welcomed the district team and that school visits included back-to-school nights and classroom observations. She said the district intends to post project renderings for the Archer Park bond on the district website and in district offices for public review.
In response to a recent safety incident, Dr. Williams said the district is convening a districtwide safety committee beginning in early September and is planning a youth roundtable in partnership with the city to gather student perspectives on safety. "We are working to ensure as best as possible that we are putting in safeguards to make sure that we are protecting the well-being of not only our students but our staff," she said.
Board members also heard back-to-school presentations from multiple sites (Kimble, Marsh, Mission, Orchard Park, Park Middle, Bidwell, Prospect Encore/TGVA and adult education) highlighting classroom activities, restorative-practices work, wellness rooms, house systems to build community and parent engagement events.
