An EMS representative briefed the council on ambulance staffing and recruitment efforts April 8, noting a recruitment-bonus program aimed at expanding the EMT workforce.
The recruitment bonus pays $500 to an EMT who successfully recruits another EMT who completes training, certification and remains on staff for six months, the representative said. Monthly reports of ambulance garages were reviewed and compared with neighboring towns; the speaker said Emery was staffed a high proportion of the time compared with other local departments.
Council members were asked to consider a budget request later in the month to support intern compensation and staffing needs. The EMS representative said the board will ask member districts for additional budgeted contributions in a future meeting to cover increases in intern pay.
No formal council action was taken at the meeting on EMS funding.
