Board members raised two technical concerns: whether the gym’s air‑handling units could handle the larger unencumbered volume if the ceiling is removed, and whether removing the ceiling would void any HVAC warranties or create other maintenance liabilities. Facilities committee members said they would verify HVAC capacity and warranty implications and report back at the next buildings and grounds meeting (scheduled March 18).
Administration said this ceiling work emerged as an add‑on after the original design and that the additional costs were not part of the initial project scope. Board members said they were uncomfortable finalizing the project without clarity on HVAC performance and warranty constraints. The board agreed to keep the item in discussion until the buildings and grounds committee can provide the additional technical information and cost options.
