Willows appoints mayor, council member to county ambulance ad hoc committee amid funding questions

The Willows City Council on March 10 appointed Mayor Evan Hudson and Council Member Pride to represent the city on a countywide ambulance ad hoc committee tasked with reviewing ambulance service levels, funding challenges and equitable cost-sharing among jurisdictions.
City Manager Marty Brown told the council the ad hoc committee will review a county-commissioned EMS and fire service study (expected in the coming months) and examine options to improve coordination between jurisdictions and ambulance providers. "The goal of the committee is to focus on reviewing the current condition and future needs of ambulance service in Glenn County," Brown said.
Chief Monk urged participation, noting the north county added a 12-hour ambulance late in 2024 to address long drive times and transport patterns that had placed heavy strain on Willows-based resources. He warned the committee will discuss subsidies: "We will be asked for money and you will be asked for money," the chief said, urging the city to have a seat at the table.
Council members volunteered and voted to appoint Hudson and Pride. The city indicated willingness to participate but said any potential financial contributions would be reviewed as committee recommendations emerge and following review of the county study.
Ending: Appointees will report back to the council; staff and the fire chief said they expect the committee to make recommendations regarding service-level funding and mutual-aid arrangements.
