Resident seeks county help after discovering small lake parcel was not titled to her family

During the public-comment period, Mary Fandry of N7845 Barker Lake Road told the committee a small marshy parcel next to her backyard has been treated as hers for decades and that the family routinely paid a separate tax bill, only to be informed in 2018 that the parcel was recorded in someone elses name.
"We refer to this marshy marshy piece of property as Fandry Island," Fandry said. She told the committee she and her family have never developed the parcel, described it as a natural habitat they and neighbors enjoy, and said she stopped paying taxes on that parcel in 2019 after learning the title belonged to a previous owner.
Brian Deere, Sawyer County Land Information Officer, responded and offered to review the property's recorded documents, surveys and parcel mapping in the land records office and invited the Fandrys to make an appointment for a detailed review: "If you want to stop by the office, I'd be more than happy to look at any of your recorded documents, surveys on file," he said.
Staff said resolving the matter may require checking recorded surveys and other documents and that remedies could include title work; the transcript records Deere offering to lay out the record and explain mapping and what the county has on file. The meeting closed the public comment item after staff offered to follow up directly with the Fandrys.
The committee did not take formal action on the matter during the session; staff advised the residents to pursue office review and potential title correction steps.
