The RSU 04 Board voted to approve an overnight trip for Oak Hill High School’s Academic Decathlon team to Garden Grove, California, for the national competition April 22–27, 2026.
Meadow Straw, who requested the trip, and chaperone Katie Stubs told the board the team qualified for nationals after placing sixth at the state meet at MIT. Stubs described hotel bookings and ongoing flight planning and said the team has raised funds through local events including a school dance, Chipotle and McDonald’s fundraisers, raffle events and community sponsorships. Students listed additional fundraisers and said they had collected checks totaling $2,000 that evening and planned further events.
Board members asked about flights, hotel confirmations, fundraising contingency plans and whether any district funds would be used. Stubs said most of the trip is covered by fundraising; the district indicated about $4,500 would be provided.
After brief questions from trustees about how students would share the experience upon return, the chair called the vote. "It is approved. Good luck. Have fun. Stay safe," the chair said as the board granted permission for the trip.
