Broadwater County appoints Mark Wood interim sheriff

The Broadwater County Commission voted April 1 to appoint Under Sheriff Mark Wood as interim Broadwater County Sheriff after the previous sheriff stepped down.
Mark Wood introduced himself to the commission and described his background: "I've been in public service for 46 years, law enforcement for 36. It's my passion. It's basically my life." He said he has served in the office for ten years and retired from D.C. in 2016 before joining the county. Wood told commissioners that the outgoing sheriff (Nick) remains available in the office for assistance and that Wood intends to seek help from neighboring sheriffs as needed.
A resolution read by a commissioner cited Montana Code Annotated 7‑4‑2206(2)(b) authority allowing a governing body to appoint an interim officer to serve until the vacancy is filled by election. After a motion and second, the commission approved the resolution by voice vote; the resolution states Wood will serve until a new sheriff is elected at the next general election.
Wood thanked the commission and said he would continue to provide the department’s work and support community needs during the interim period.
